Overview

South Kerala is famous for its scenic paddy fields and backwaters. It includes the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Alappuzha. Before the Indian Independence, majority of this area belonged to the Travancore Kingdom. The kingdom’s capital was in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum). Thiruvananthapuram is now the capital city of Kerala.
